So, I know technically Summer isn’t over til September 21st, when Fall comes quietly to Southern California. But, see, school has started, so it feels like Summer is a thing of the past.
One of the great traditions we have, however, always has its last few shows into September, so we get to have a fun outing right before Labor Day.
Of course, I mean the Hollywood Bowl. I realize I’ve talked about this a few times, but last night was the first time they’ve tried a quiz show, and it was loads of fun!
First, I used the decadent chocolate chips I bought at See’s the other day and made cookies.
And there was a joint effort to make some homemade bread.
We stopped by the store for some cheese, salami, wine, and some fried chicken for the kids and headed out.
On the way, there was an amazing double rainbow that these photos don’t do justice.
Last night, it was “Night at the Movies” as they do once a year. In the past, they’ve concentrated on one movie studio. For instance, Fox, where they play anything from The King And I to Star Wars, or Paramount, where they’ll show anything from The Ten Commandments to White Christmas to Raiders of the Lost Ark.
Last night was a perfect night for the last outing.
Last night was called The Big Picture: AFI’s Great American Movie Quiz Hosted by Alex Trebek. They gave everyone 3 glow sticks – one red, one blue, and one green. Each question had 3 possible answers, shown on the big screens in red, blue, and green. You hold the corresponding color glow stick up when you think you have the answer.
Here’s a picture of one of the last questions.
It’s hard to see, but the possible answers are Somewhere In Time, The Time Machine, and Back To The Future. Can you see all the green glow sticks in the audience? 🙂
It was a great night. The women behind us were very friendly and fun, and it wasn’t nearly as crowded as John Williams, so it was a little easier on us all around. Another Summer seems to have passed, and now we’re starting the second week of school. Seems like just yesterday my kids were starting school LAST year!
Happy September, folks!
